Lord Shiva and poor family

Sunday 25 November 2012

Once Lord Shiva and Goddess (Mother) Parvati were travelling around the world. While they were travelling, Mother Parvati saw one very poor family of a man, a woman and their one son. The clothes of all the family members were torn. There does not seem to be enough food and water for them. Rain-water was leaking from the roof of their hut. On seeing the family in such a condition, Mother Parvati felt very sorry and bad. She turned towards Lord Shiva and said, "Great Lord! Look at this family. They are in such a poor condition. Please do something for them." Lord Shiva looked down at the family and replied, "This family has everything it needs. I do not need to do anything for them, as it will disturb their happiness." Mother Parvati got shocked to hear this reply and insisted, "You feel they are happy? Look at them. They don't even have food to eat. You must fulfill one wish of each family member." Lord Shiva now could not overlook this strong request of Mother Parvati, and appeared in front of the family.

The family got amazed to see Lord Shiva in front of them. They all bowed in respect to Him. Lord Shiva first of all asked the woman, "O lady, I will fulfill your one wish. What do you want?" Now the woman got confused as to what she should say. So many wishes started coming to her mind, but can only ask for one. After thinking a lot, she said, "Make me the world's most beautiful woman." Lord Shiva said, "Amen!" And there it happened. She became the most beautiful woman of world. She saw herself in the mirror and got extremely happy. Her husband looked at her and felt his good fortune has turned and he now has most beautiful woman as his wife. The woman looked at her husband and thought, 'Eh! I am the most beautiful woman. He is such a skinny poor ugly man. How can I live with him!!' The king of that kingdom was passing nearby from their hut on his chariot. The king also looked at the woman. He got amazed and excited to see her. He thought, 'I never knew my kingdom has such a beautiful woman. What is she doing with this poor man. She deserves to be my queen.' Thinking this, the king held the woman's hand and pulled her on his chariot. The woman also became happy on thinking that now she will be queen. She did not resist and easily sat beside the king.

Now, Lord Shiva turned towards the man and asked, "O gentleman, I will fulfill your one wish. What do you want?" The man already was very angry on the behavior of his wife. He thought, 'I always supported my wife in all good and bad times. I remained with her and never complained if she was beautiful or not. Now when she became most beautiful woman, she left me. She is such a cheat.' After thinking all this, he said, "Please make the woman, whom you just made most beautiful woman, a sow (female pig)." Lord Shiva said, "Amen!". The woman, who was sitting beside the chariot of king, turned to a sow. The king thought, 'Maybe before marriage, I will not get a chance to see the woman. Since she is so beautiful, I should look at her once more.' After thinking this, he turned around and saw that instead of most beautiful woman, a sow was sitting there. He thought that this is some kind of black magic and threw the sow out of the chariot and moved ahead. The woman realized that she has now turned into sow. She understood her mistake and somehow returned back to her family wounded. The man on seeing her angrily said, "So you came back Most Beautiful Woman or Sow."

Lord Shiva turned to the boy, and said, "O boy, I will fulfill your one wish. What do you want?" The boy replied, "Why you came here all of a sudden? Who told you to ask us one wish!? Because of your this one wish, my mother has become a sow and is wounded. Also my father is very angry. We were poor earlier, but at least we were together. Now because of you, all of us are getting separated from each other. Just do one thing, make us as we were earlier." Lord Shiva looked back at Mother Parvati and smiled and said, "Amen!" Everything became as it used to be earlier. Lord Shiva said to Mother Parvati, "I had already said that they have everything they should have."
