Scholar Parrots of Cage

Tuesday 20 November 2012

Once upon a time, a bird hunter caught two young parrots from their nests and kept them inside cages. The parrots were so young that even their eyes were closed. He took those parrots in market and sold them to a scientist. The scientist thought that he will experiment with these parrots by giving them knowledge of various subjects. So he hired different teachers of various subjects, who started teaching parrots in the cages. As the time progressed, parrots memorized vast knowledge of various subjects. Those parrots now started feeling proud of their extensive knowledge on every subject. The scientist also felt proud on his experiment that he now considered to be successful. He now organized a press conference to demonstrate the success of his experiment with parrots. Various persons asked parrots all kinds of questions from different subjects. Everyone was surprised and amazed to see those two parrots giving absolutely correct answers to all their questions. Then the scientist felt that he should free those parrots as there is nothing left to achieve with them now. Then he took those parrots in a forest, freed them out of their cages and kept them on a branch of tree. After that, the scientist returned feeling happy of his successful experiment on parrots.

Meanwhile in the forest, these two parrots started speaking among themselves regarding various subjects. They also debated on various global issues being faced and what could be the possible resolutions. One wild parrot also came and sat near both these parrots. The wild parrot felt amazed to see the knowledge and debates of those parrots. All of a sudden, the wild parrot looked down the tree and got thrilled to see a cat quietly coming up the tree near them. Both those scholar parrots kept on debating among themselves and did not notice the cat coming nearer. The wild parrot interrupted them and said, "O scholarly parrots! Can you also fly if danger comes?" One of the scholar parrots angrily replied, "Hey fool wild parrot, don't you have manners that you should not interrupt when some important discussion is going on. We are so knowledgeable. We can find solution to any problem. Nothing is impossible for us." The wild parrot said, "What is the use of this knowledge if you can not implement it in your life! Can you fly if someone attacks you?" The second scholar parrot replied, "We don't know flying. We never flied in life. But we can explain how the birds fly. When the birds flap their wings, low air pressure is developed which causes the birds to rise and it helps them to fly." During the time all these discussions were going on, the cat came too close. The wild parrot sensing the danger said, "Brothers, I did not understand much whatever you said. I am a wild bird and I can fly even though I don't know all this. But if you can not fly even after learning all this, its of no use. You will be gone if you don't know the practical implementation of these theories in your life." Saying this, he flew away.

Well now all of you can easily sense what the cat would have done with those scholar parrots of cage who had the theoretical knowledge of everything but did not know FLYING!!
