The Haughty Crow

Tuesday 29 January 2013

Once, a wedge of swans was flying through seashore. A crow was also enjoying himself there. He looked at the swans and said with an intention of insulting the swans, "All of you fly so nicely. What else you all can do except flapping your wings and flying!!! Can you also do stunts in air like me?? No, because you only know of flying in a simple manner, nothing else!!"

On hearing this, an old swan said, "It is good that you have the ability to do all stunts in air. But, you should not feel too much proud on it." The crow replied, "I don't care if you think I am proud. I challenge if anyone of you can beat me!!" One young swan accepted the challenge. It was decided that there would be a competition of two rounds. In first round, the crow would show his talent and swan would have to match him. In the second round, the swan would show his talent and crow would have to match him. After both the rounds, whoever has performed well will be declared as winner.

The competition started. The crow started showing amazing stunts flying in the air. He made circles in air, touched the ground and flew upside down from there. On the contrary, the swan was unable to do anything like the crow did. The crow felt extremely proud of his talents and he said, "I was telling you before the competition, you people are not worthy to do anything special!!"

The second round started. The swan started flying towards sea. The crow also started following the swan. After sometime, the crow said, "What kind of talent you are trying to display? Whats so special flying straight? You are seriously stupid bird." The swan did not reply and kept on flying. After sometime, both of them reached in the middle of ocean without any land in sight. The crow had stopped talking by now. He had become extremely tired flying so long and it was becoming difficult for him to hang himself in the air. He repeatedly kept on getting closer to sea-level. The swan was understanding the condition of the crow. However, he asked the crow pretending to be unknown to his situation, "Why are you getting closer to sea-level while flying? Is it also your some unique talent that you want to display?" The crow replied, "No, its none of my talents. I have understood that everyone has their own qualities and one should never feel proud over them. I am sorry for my behavior. I am extremely tired and can not fly anymore. Please save my life." The swan felt pity on the condition of the crow. He thought, 'The crow has learned the lesson. There is no reason that I should not help him.' The swan took the crow on his back and flew back to the starting point.
