Taste of Grief

Sunday 27 October 2013

In a village, there lived a saint. Many people used to praise him for his knowledge and guidance. One day, a young boy came near to him. On the request of boy, the saint came to meet him. The boy said, "Respected Guru, I have come here with the hope of saving myself. Please help me from the griefs in my life, and remove all of them."

The saint gave him a handful of salt and asked him to mix it into a glass of water. The boy did the same. Now the saint asked him to taste that water. The boy could have hardly tasted the water and spilled it out. The saint asked the reason for spilling out the water. The boy said, "It was extremely salty."

The saint took the boy near a lake. On reaching near the lake, he gave another handful salt and asked the boy to mix it into the lake and then taste the water. The boy did the same. The saint asked him, "How was the taste of water?" The boy replied, "It was nice and pure water."

The saint then explained, "The griefs of your life is nothing but a handful of salt. Now the question is whether your attitude towards fighting it is small like a glass of water or large as this lake. Instead of requesting for removing griefs, one should focus on strengthening his inner self. A strong inner self can easily dissolve all griefs and it will have negligible impact on one's life. So, I bless you to be strong from inside and you will be able to fight all griefs of your life successfully."
