Dance of a Sage

Sunday 15 December 2013

In a village, there lived a sage. Whenever he used to dance, it started raining. Hence, whenever the villagers felt the need of rain, they used to go near the saint and requested him to dance. And when the saint used to dance agreeing to their demands, it always started raining.

After some months, four boys returned to village after completing their studies in city. When they heard about the sage, they could not believe that rain could occur just because of the sage's dance. Out of their ego, they challenged the villagers that the rain will occur even on their dance. If it did not happen on their dance, then it won't happen on the dancing of the sage either.

The villagers took those boys in front of the sage and told everything to him. The sage started smiling and accepted the challenge. All those boys started dancing. Within half hour, one boy got tired and gave up. After some time, another boy gave up and sat down. Within one hour, all four boys had given up. But, still there was no rain in vicinity.

Now, it was the turn of the sage. The sage stood up and with a lot of enthusiasm, started dancing. He kept on dancing continuously for few hours and it became evening. Then, miraculously, clouds started gathering in the sky and within few minutes, it started raining heavily.

Dumbstruck, the boys were not able to believe their own eyes. On coming back to senses, one of the boys managed to ask the sage, "O old sage! How did you do it? When we tried, it did not rain at all, but why it started raining when you danced?"

The sage explained to the boys, "Dear boys, whenever I dance, I always take special care of two things. First, I firmly believe that when I will dance, it will have to rain. There is no doubt at all on this thing in my mind. Secondly, I keep on dancing and do not stop till it starts to rain. Whoever follows these two things, can achieve anything. The key to the success is only following these two things. Believe in your abilities and keep trying till you achieve your goal."
