Monkeys of Village

Sunday 11 May 2014

There was a village where a lot of monkeys used to live. A man came to the village and saw that the villagers were quite annoyed with the monkeys. He thought of an idea. He announced that for each monkey given to him, he would reward the villagers with ten bucks. Since the villagers were quite fed up with the monkeys, they immediately accepted the offer and started catching the monkeys.

The man bought almost a thousand monkeys with this offer. Now the number of monkeys became quite less and villagers gradually stopped making efforts catching them. Seeing this, the man announced that he would now give twenty bucks for each monkey. Hearing this announcement, all the villagers again started catching the monkeys. The monkeys became so less that very rarely any monkey was spotted. Since it now needed too much effort, the villagers again stopped making any efforts to catch them. The man then announced that he will now give thirty bucks for each monkey. This did draw some attention but the monkeys have now almost become extinct from the village and only a couple of monkeys were caught.

The man after seeing that there is hardly any monkey left, announced that now he will reward fifty bucks for each monkey. But this time he appointed a representative for the collection of monkeys and he himself went to some other village for catching more monkeys. The representative saw that none of the villagers were able to find any monkey. He then gave an offer to the villagers that they could buy back the monkeys that were already caught in forty bucks and can sell those monkeys again to the man in fifty bucks whenever he returns.

The villagers happily accepted this offer and bought all the monkeys with all their hard-earned money. After selling all the monkeys, the representative also went assuring the villagers that he would return back with the man. But many days passed and neither the man returned nor his representative. But there were monkeys all around the village again.
