In a kingdom of ancient India, there lived a prince who was about to become a king. According to the traditions, he needed to get married before becoming a king. One wise minister suggested him that he should invite all the young unmarried girls of his kingdom and should select the most wise girl for marriage.
A servant used to work in the palace. His daughter was also of marriageable age. He went near his daughter and told him about the invitation. His daughter accepted the invitation and said that she was already in love of the prince. The servant was dumbstruck to listen this. His daughter understood and said, "Don't worry, I know that there will be many beautiful girls from all over the kingdom and the prince may not choose me. But I will be near him for few moments. This will be more than enough for me."
Many girls turned up on the invitation night. Many beautiful and rich girls were present who were trying to attract the prince to themselves. The prince then entered in the venue and announced, "I will give a seed to each one of you. After six months, all of you can come back here with the flower that would grow on the plant from this seed. I would marry the girl who will have the most beautiful flower. She will be the queen of my kingdom."
Each girl was provided with a flower pot and a seed was sown into it. The daughter of servant was not aware of gardening. Still she took a good care of provided flower pot with dedication. However, the time moved on but no plant grew out of her pot. She consulted with many gardeners and farmers. They gave her few tips for gardening too. But nothing worked on the flower pot. Ultimately the period of six months passed and the time came for selection of bride by the prince.
All the girls assembled at the venue inside palace. The daughter of servant also reached with empty pot. She saw that pots available with other girls were filled with incredible flowers. She became disheartened seeing all beautiful flowers available with other girls. Now the prince announced the result. He pointed towards the daughter of servant and said, "She will be my queen. I shall marry her because she got the most beautiful flower for me."
All other girls started getting angry on this decision. They said that the prince is insulting all the girls who actually brought beautiful flowers for a poor girl who could not grow any flower in her pot. The prince peacefully listened to their complaints and answered humbly, "I have decided to marry her because only she came here with empty pot. I had given dead seeds to all the girls six months ago and I knew there would be no plant coming out of that seed. Only this girl holds the most beautiful flower of her heart for me which is filled with truth and honesty."
