Farmer and the Jinn

Saturday 28 February 2015

Once upon a time, there lived a farmer in ancient China. He had many dreams that he wanted to fulfil in his life. He always prayed to God for fulfilling his wishes. One day he came to know that a saint acquainted with supernatural powers was visiting his village. He thought that this was his chance to get all his wishes fulfilled. He immediately left to meet the saint.

On reaching near saint, the farmer greeted him respectfully and told him that he always prayed to God for fulfilling his wishes. He then asked the saint if he could help in fulfilling all his dreams. The saint replied, "You don't need my help. You already have everything. You should be content in your life and do hard-work for betterment for your life and society at large." But the farmer insisted for helping him out. The saint said, "You don't need God for fulfilling your wishes but if you so desire then I can provide you with this lamp. On rubbing this lamp, a Jinn would appear. He would fulfil your wishes. But remember if you do not give him any wish to be fulfilled, he would simply eat you up and would go back in this lamp."

The farmer thought, 'I have so many wishes that it would take a lifetime to be completed. This Jinn will never become free from fulfilling my wishes.' The farmer accepted the condition and took the lamp to his home. Happily, he rubbed the lamp. Within seconds, the area around him filled with smoke and a Jinn appeared and said, "What is your wish master? Tell me or I will eat you." The farmer said, "Make me richest man." The Jinn clapped and there it happened. He became extremely rich flooded with coins of gold and silver. The farmer then wished for tasty food, big palace, beautiful girl, luxurious car and so on. The Jinn kept clapping fulfilling all his wishes.

Hardly five minutes passed, the puzzled farmer could not think of any wish to be fulfilled whatsoever. The Jinn was now getting restless without any order and said, "Give me order master, else I will eat you now." The farmer got extremely scared and started running to save his life.

Scared and tired, the farmer reached near the saint and started pleading for help. The saint said, "I already said you don't need my help. You already had everything but you insisted on your request." The farmer accepted his mistake and asked for forgiveness. On seeing such a pity condition of the farmer, the saint said pointing towards a dog standing nearby, "Can you see the tail of this dog? Ask this Jinn to straighten this up." The farmer immediately ordered to Jinn, "Straighten this curled tail of this dog." As ordered, the Jinn took the tail of dog and straightened it. However as soon as he left the tail it again curled up. Now the Jinn kept straightening the tail again and again but every time it curled up.
