Vultures of an Island

Sunday 20 March 2016

A group of vultures was searching for food. After flying for a while, they found an island. The island was like heaven for those vultures. The island and surroundings were full of frogs, fishes etc. Also there was no threat of any wild animal who could attack them.

The young vultures were very excited after reaching this place. One of the vultures said, "This is a great place. We can get as much food as we want without much effort and there is no threat to our lives here. We should stay at this place." Other vultures agreed to him and everyone started dancing with joy.

All vultures started living happily there. However, one old vulture was worried with such a lifestyle. One day, the old vulture expressed his concern and said, "My dear vultures, we are known for our high altitude flying and hunting with sharp precision. But here we have stopped flying and are not making any efforts for hunting. This is deteriorating our abilities, and is not good for our future. I think it is good for us to leave this place and return to forest. Anyone who agrees and wants to accompany me, can come with me." Listening to the old vulture, other vultures started laughing and made fun of him. Humiliated, the old vulture had to return alone.

Few months passed. The old vulture thought, 'It has been a while when I saw my old friends.' Thinking this, he flew to the island. The scene he witnessed on island was frightening. Most of the vultures were dead and few who were left were injured too. He asked one of the injured vultures, "How did all this happen?"

The injured vulture said, "Please forgive me. I, alongwith other vultures, made fun of you when you were suggesting to return to forest. After few days when you had left, a ship arrived here and they left few leopards on this island. Initially the leopards did not attack us. But after sometime, when they realized that we have forgotten flying; they started attacking and killing us. Now we are on the verge of getting entirely killed by them. We should have agreed to your advice of not getting carried away with such a lifestyle, which negatively impacted our strengths and abilities."
