Unhappy Old Man

An old man lived in the village. He was one of the most unfortunate people in the world. The whole village was tired of him; he was always gloomy, he constantly complained and was always in a bad mood.

Crab and Sea Waves

A crab used to live inside the sea. He had developed the skill of communicating with the sea since his childhood. The sea also took very good care of him. It provided all the amenities the crab needed for living happily inside the sea.

Verse of a Dancer

A king was enjoying his life with all pleasures of life. He became old but his attachment with pleasures still remained. One day, a group of dancers and singers came in his court. On seeing them, the king ordered them to entertain him for a whole night.

Golden Begging Bowl

Once a fakir lived in ancient India. He used to beg using a bowl made of clay. One day, the queen called him in the palace and said, "You are such a great soul. If possible, please give your bowl to me. I shall pray the bowl." The fakir gave the bowl, which was all he had; to the queen. The queen was impressed with his selflessness and gave a golden bowl studded with diamonds to the fakir. The fakir accepted the golden bowl and went from the palace.

What is Ignorance

Once Emperor Akbar called upon Birbal and said, "I have many times asked you about questions of knowledge. But now I want to ask you an opposite question. Please tell me what is ignorance?"

Five Wise Men

Five wise men got lost in the forest.
The first one said:
– I will go the left – my intuition tells me that.
The second one said:
– I will go the right – because “the right” comes from the word “rightness”.
The third one said:
– I will go back – we came from there, it means I will go out from the forest.
The fourth one said:
– I will go straight – we should move forward, the forest will end and something new will open.
The fifth said:
– You are all wrong. There is a better solution. Wait for me.

The Grain of Rice

A beggar left his home in the morning. It was festive season, so he was hoping to get a lot of alms. He put a few grains of rice in his bowl. It is easier for people to donate something when they see the begging bowl a little filled, as it gives an impression that someone has also donated before them. As he entered the village, he saw the king coming.

Fighting Old Couple

The quarreling of old couple living nearby never ends. One day, I thought of discussing the reason for their quarrels. Then I thought I have come only for few days, so let it be that way. But after sometime, the old lady again started shouting. I decided to meet them and went to their house.

Question of Beggar

Once, there lived a beggar in north India. He used to see other people living a prosperous life and always wondered if there is any reason he was poor and how he can become prosperous. One day he heard that Gautam Buddha arrived in a nearby village. The beggar thought that he could ask this question to Buddha and can easily get an answer from such an enlightened person.

Shop of God

Once there lived a person named Sukhiram. He always used to pray for happiness of himself and the world. One day he was travelling in a fete. There he saw a shop with sign board "Shop of God". Since he never saw such a shop in his life, he decided to enter the shop.
