Businessman and his Glass of milk

Friday 28 December 2012

Once upon a time, there lived a businessman. Before sleeping, he always used to take a glass of milk. As his business grew and he became richer, he thought that instead of daily preparing the glass of milk, he should better hire some servant for this job.

Soon, he published advertisement for the requirement of a servant and hired one servant. The servant initially served the milk properly to the businessman. After few days, the servant thought if he could just take out a quarter of the milk for himself and mix water in it, the master would never know. So, he took a quarter-glass milk out for himself and mixed water in it. The businessman started doubting that something is wrong with the glass of milk as it doesn't taste like it used to be before. After few more days, the doubt became stronger.

So, he hired another servant to keep an eye on first servant if he is properly preparing the glass of milk. The second servant saw that the doubt of businessman was correct as the first servant took a quarter of glass milk out for himself and mixed water in it. Now the second servant threatened the first servant to provide him a quarter-glass of milk too, else he would expose the truth. That night, the businessman got half glass of milk mixed with half glass of water. Now, the businessman became a lot more doubtful.

He then hired another servant to keep a watch on the other two servants. The third servant saw that both the servants took half glass of milk and divided among themselves a quarter glass each. They then mixed half glass water in the milk and gave it to the businessman. Seeing this, the third servant said, "The master was absolutely correct. Both of you mix water in the milk. I will tell the master about it." Both the servants got scared and said what they can do to avoid him from complaining. The third servant also demanded the share in the glass of milk. Now, on the next night, three quarters of milk were taken out and only one quarter milk was left for the businessman (mixed with three quarters of water!!). When businessman saw the milk in glass, he felt as if he is only seeing white water. And it tasted so weird that he could not swallow beyond the first gulp.

The doubt now took the shape of firm belief and the businessman hired another servant just to verify that all three servants are cheating on him. The fourth servant saw that all three servants took one quarter of milk each and then mixed three quarters of water. The fourth servant asked them that he should also get a quarter of milk for himself. Now all three existing servants became puzzled and asked the fourth servant, "If we will take four quarters milk out of the glass, then what we will give to the businessman!! An empty glass!?!" The fourth servant replied, "You do not worry. He believes others more than himself anyways. I will manage." This night, the businessman kept on waiting for the glass of milk. It became very late and he angrily slept that night without having milk.

When he slept, then all four servants came and quietly put some milk cream on the businessman's mustache. The businessman angrily ordered all the servants to come as soon as he woke up. All his servants came and stood in front of the businessman. The businessman said, "I have hired all of you to ensure that I get a glass of milk properly every night. But despite hiring all of you, I did not receive any glass of milk last night. What's wrong happening here!!??" The fourth servant replied, "But master, you had enjoyed milk last night. You were very happy and saying that you got a good glass of milk after a long time. I think you forgot it because you were extremely tired. Look at your mustache. The cream is still lying on it." The businessman looked in the mirror and the cream was actually present there on the mustache. He then thought, 'If he is saying so confidently, it might be possible that I had milk and I forgot it because of my tiredness.' Then the businessman smiled and said, "I am sorry to all of you. I trust you that I must have enjoyed the milk last night. Even the cream on my mustache is proving it."
