Justice of Peace

Saturday, 30 June 2018

In his old age, Nasiruddin was appointed as chief justice of peace of village. One day, he received a case in his court. A woodcutter, who used to cut trees in forest and sell them in village, appealed to Nasiruddin, "Please help me, I am in deep trouble."

With him, another man, who looked very powerful, was standing. The woodcutter, pointing to that man, further said, "Yesterday while I was cutting trees, he was sitting on a rock. Each time I hit the tree with my axe, this man shouted 'hun' as if he was cutting the tree. Now he is claiming that he should get half of the money earned by selling woods, because he also shouted with me while I was cutting trees."

Nasiruddin asked for the money earned by selling woods. The woodcutter gave him a bag full of coins. Nasiruddin took the bag and started dropping coin one by one on floor. Each time a coin fell, a sound of 'kank' was made. Once all the coins were dropped in this way, Nasiruddin gave his verdict, "As you have shouted like a woodcutter but did not actually cut the trees, the same way you have received the sound of all coins but this money will remain with the woodcutter now. You cannot claim anything by just making sounds, you need to make an effort to earn it."
