The Best Cup

Sunday 6 April 2014

A group of college friends met each other after a long time. All of them were doing great in their respective careers. After spending a lot of time together, they decided to meet their favorite professor of college. The professor welcomed them and asked about their jobs etc. The discussions went ahead and reached on the topic of increasing stress and tensions in their lives. Everyone was of the same opinion that although they are now financially very strong, yet they do not have the fun in their lives that was present earlier.

The professor was listening them very carefully. While the discussions were still going on, he stood up, went to the kitchen and came back with a kettle of coffee. He then said, "My dear students, I have prepared hot coffee for all of you. But, please do me a favor. Kindly go to the kitchen and bring a cup for yourself." Everyone went to the kitchen. There were different types of cups available there. All the friends selected the best cup according to their choices and returned.

The professor looked at the cups brought by his students. Some have brought crystal cups, others have selected porcelain while few have taken glass cups. The professor gave coffee to all of them and then said, "Everyone of you tried to get the best cup for yourself. Although the cup makes no difference in the taste of the coffee, yet each one of you was out there trying to get the best cup. This is the source of your stress. You do not concentrate on enjoying the coffee, rather you people take the burden of selecting the best cup. This life is just like this coffee which should be enjoyed. But you have started trying to get the best cups or I should say cars, houses, luxuries. There is nothing wrong in trying to get the best cup, but its certainly wrong getting lost in the race of selecting best cup that you forget to enjoy the coffee."
